This certified sailing course provides the first step towards learning how to sail a yacht. It’s a great opportunity to combine an active holiday with learning to sail. During the two days you will get a feel for steering a yacht (known as helming), how to operate the sails and gain wind awareness, rope work and safety at sea at.

Course outcome

After successfully completing this sailing course you will have the ability and knowledge to crew a yacht under direction of an experienced skipper. Upon successful completion you will also be issued with a Start Yachting Certificate as part of the Royal Yachting Association course syllabus.

After finishing the course, participants are able to progress onto the Competent Crew sailing course by completing a further three days.

Additional information

This course is run over two days and is live-aboard. Course fees are all-inclusive, covering all food on board (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner), mooring costs, rental of coastal sailing leggings, jackets.

No experience or sailing knowledge is needed to participate in this course.
On the day of your course, we'll provide with all the essential sailing gear at no additional cost. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing under your sailing gear, wear sunglasses and use sunscreen, and to bring a warm hat, gloves, and socks. Prior to the day of your course, we'll send you an email with more details on what you should bring with you.

RYA certifications are the most internationally recognized yachting qualifications in the world. The Irish Sailing Association (ISA) is the national governing body for sailing, powerboating, and windsurfing in Ireland.
